10 Star Wars filming locations to visit
A selection of filming locations from the Star Wars saga, so that fans can travel in the footsteps of their heroes.
- Finse, Norway
Head to Finse, Norway, to discover the Hardangerjøkulen glacier. Does this place covered in snow and ice ring a bell? It's the planet Hoth that appears in Episode V. It's in this natural setting that we discover the famous AT-AT robots.
- Guilin in China
The region of Guilin in China is the setting for the planet Kashyyyk in Episode III. With its caves and mountains, it's the ideal place for the Wookies to live.
- Matmata , Tunisia
Tunisia is a favourite filming location for the Star Wars saga. In Matmata, the Sidi Driss hotel, with its troglodyte architecture, has been transformed into the Lars farm for the purposes of the film. This is where Luke Skywalker, his aunt and uncle live on Tatooine.
- Guatemala
Guatemala was also the location for the filming of Star Wars, and Episode IV in particular. The Mayan temples of Tikal became the planet Yavin IV, inhabited by the Massassis. It is a major site of Mayan civilisation and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- Various Locations , Southern Tunisia
In addition to Matmata, Tunisia offers a number of filming locations for the saga, including Ajim, which is home to Ben's house in Episode IV. In Episode I, Mos Espa was filmed in various locations between Ksar Hadada and Ksar Medenine.
- Phang Nga Bay, Thailand
Phang Nga Bay in Thailand was also used to represent the planet Kashyyyk in Episode III. It features the same landscapes as the Guilin region.
- Seville , Plaza de España
Head to Seville to discover the immense Plaza de España. This was transformed into the courtyard of Theed's palace for the purposes of Episode II. This administrative centre of Naboo is a must-see for Star Wars fans and architecture enthusiasts alike.

- Death Valley, in the United States
Not all the scenes set on Tatooine were filmed in Tunisia. Certain moments from Episodes IV and VI were immortalised in Death Valley, in the United States.
- Lake Como, Italy
Our world tour comes to an end in Italy, in the town of Lenno, on the shores of Lake Como, and more specifically at Villa Balbianello. This splendid residence is the home of Padmé's parents in Attack of the Clones.
